Organic synthesis by

designing catalyst

and chemical reaction

as well as molecule

Ohmiya group is dedicated to pushing the boundaries of radical-based organic synthesis by designing novel catalysts, developing innovative reaction methodologies, and constructing complex molecular architectures. We aim to harness the unique reactivity of radical intermediates to enable efficient and selective transformations that are challenging to achieve using conventional synthetic approaches.
Currently, our research focuses on three key areas: light-driven radical catalysis, where we explore the use of photoredox systems to generate and control radical species for sustainable and selective transformations; chemical modification of nucleotides, which involves developing strategies to functionalize nucleic acids for applications in chemical biology and therapeutics; and caging strategies, where we design and synthesize protective groups that allow precise spatiotemporal control of bioactive molecules.
Through these efforts, we strive to advance the field of organic synthesis and contribute to the development of next-generation chemical tools for applications in medicine, materials science, and beyond.
